How it started
In 2014, Paul — an Indian migrant to Australia — knew exactly how it feels to stand outside a conversation: understanding the words, but not daring to speak. Instead of accepting it, he started hosting free English conversation meetups in Sydney, Australia. Week after week, strangers became speakers, and speakers became friends.
From a Sydney café to forty countries
What began face-to-face in Sydney moved online in 2020 — and the room grew. Today, Let’s Talk in English brings together professionals, students, and new migrants from Japan, Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Dubai, Brazil, Germany and beyond. Over 750 events later, the idea is unchanged: real conversation, real people, zero judgement.
What a session looks like
Every Sunday at 6:00 PM Sydney, Australia time, we meet on Zoom for two full hours. A host welcomes everyone, small breakout rooms keep conversations comfortable, and discussion topics mean there is never an awkward silence. You can come every week or drop in when life allows — the room is always warm.
Our one strict rule
This is a language and friendship community — never a dating platform. Asking members for phone numbers, social accounts, or private meetings is prohibited, and breaking this rule means immediate removal and a permanent ban. That strictness is why our room feels safe, and why people stay for years.
